Accolade for NHS Borders’ head of midwifery: Nurse Elaine highly commended in UK nurse awards
Elaine Cockburn, head of midwifery, for NHS Borders, was ‘Highly Commended’ in the Robert Tiffany International Award category of the annual Nursing Standard Nurse Awards, which took place in London at the end of March. The Awards recognise and reward the incredible achievement and the unrelenting contribution to improving patient care demonstrated by nurses and healthcare professionals. The Robert Tiffany International Award category is sponsored by the Royal College of Nursing. It recognises outstanding contributions to international nursing. Elaine and her colleagues across Scotland, who are instructors with the charity Advanced Life Support in Obstetrics [ALSO], began fundraising three–and–a–half years ago to take ALSO's two–day obstetric emergency course to Malawi. Malawi has some of the worst maternal, perinatal and neonatal morbidity and mortality figures in sub–Saharan Africa. Visit the NHS Borders website at: www.nhsborders.org.uk for more details.
