Royal Gwent Hospital and Cancer Research:

Sponsored climb of Mont Blanc raises over £23,000

Two friends from Usk in Monmouthshire have successfully tackled a sponsored climb of Europe’s highest mountain, Mont Blanc, and raised over £23,000 for the Royal Gwent Hospital and Cancer Research.

Solicitor Owan Jones and businessman Edward Davies had had no previous experience of mountaineering and put themselves through a demanding regime of training for six months beforehand.

They have now presented a cheque for £17,000 to Royal Gwent Hospital for the Haematology Ward and £6,250 to Cancer Research.

Unfortunately, the weather was the worst that their guide had ever experienced in the summer, so the arduous climb was terminated just 1,600 metres from the summit.

For further information about the climb and the two intrepid mountaineers, visit the Wales NHS website at: www.wales.nhs.uk.
