World Congress on Men’s Health concludes:
Social factors affect premature death in male cancer
The opening speech in the recent World Congress on Men’s Health in Vienna was given by Alan White, chair of Men’s Health Forum and concentrated on the significance of social factors in premature deaths from cancer in men.
Mr White, who is Professor of Men’s Health at Leeds Metropolitan University, told the 200 delegates present that the causes of the increased risk of men dying from cancer were not clear, but that social conditions are a factor that have greater impact on men.
Information from 17 European countries was analysed, and, significantly, the results on premature male death from cancer were unanimous.
The three–day congress was attended by health professionals from a wide–range of disciplines details of which, including a fuller report on Professor White’s speech, can be downloaded by visiting the Men’s Health Forum website at: www.menshealthforum.org.uk.
