NHS primary care trusts:
Forum calls for action on hospital gender equality
The Men’s Health Forum has urged the chief executive officer of the Human Rights Commission to press ahead urgently with the implementation of the gender equality duty by NHS primary care trusts.
A survey of the 152 primary care trusts earlier this year found that some 60 per cent had published a final scheme and the Forum considers that this is a 'major obstacle' to the achievement of equality by the NHS.
According to Peter Baker of the Forum, 44 per cent of published schemes did not mention any consultation process, only five PCTs included gender–disaggregated data in relation to local health outcomes and many individual cases were noted which approached the problem in different ways.
