Scottish health survey results:
‘Healthy, satisfied, connected and in control’, Scots
The results of the third–run of a survey which was first commissioned five years ago and which took place in 2006, have recently been published, this time with additional help of a new tool, The Warwick Edinburgh Mental Wellbeing Scale.
The survey found the people of Scotland generally healthy, satisfied with where they live, feel connected with others and in control of their lives, findings connected to what are seen as more positive attitudes to mental health and wellbeing, both of which factors are said to be on the increase.
Despite the 'Utopian feel' to these results, there is still much to be done, say the report’s authors, particularly in relation to inequalities issues. Future work will also need to include a renewed focus on ways in which the media portray mental health and mental illness.
