Report welcomed for victims of violent crime: Fairer and faster service for compensation claimants
In response to the National Audit Office report called Compensating Victims of Violent Crime, the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority [CICA] in Scotland says it welcomes the publication as a key contribution to the work already underway to improve its performance since, in 2006, it was recognised that the Authority’s service had declined and that major changes were needed. Carole Oatway, CICA chief executive said, “For many innocent victims of crime, a compensation payment from CICA is one of the key things they receive to show that society recognises what they have suffered.” The report recognises that improvements have been made and the CICA has already begun to address many issues raised in it. Ms Oatway added that working closely with the criminal justice system will ensure that people who come to the authority for compensation will receive a fairer, faster service in future.
