Clydebank:

Healthy eating and cookery courses for youngsters

Knowes Housing Association, with the backing of Communities Scotland’s Wider Role Fund, has set–up a healthy eating café in Faifley which provides healthy eating schemes for youngsters who would otherwise be unable to gain work experience.

It is known as Café Knowes and is run by a trained chef who will train young people in the art of cooking with nutritional ingredients, and will provide a healthy menu for its customers, who will also be able to use computers with free access to the internet.

The contribution from Communities Scotland consisted of a range of cookery equipment and computers which can benefit the wider community of the area.

Café Knowes also distributes fruit from the local market to schools around West Dunbartonshire and has recently been awarded a Scottish Healthy Choices Award.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde and Dunbartonshire Health Living Initiative are allso involved in the project.
