Carers Northern Ireland:
October rise in earnings benefit for carers welcomed
As from the beginning of October the weekly earnings limit on Carer’s Allowance has risen to £95, a small but significant increase which has been welcomed by Carers Northern Ireland.
Part of the problem was that every time the minimum wage rose, some carers were forced off benefit or forced to give–up work because the rise was out–of–step with the amount that could be earned by them without losing the allowance.
Carers UK had launched a report earlier this year as part of its Real Change not Short Change campaign which calls for an overhaul of carers’ benefits and financial situation to try to make ends meet.
For further information about the campaign, visit the Carers Northern Ireland website at: www.carersni.org.
