Carry On Laughing and Screaming:
Royal Mail stamps issue honours cinema classics
Edited by Jane Hill: Belly laughs and spine–chilling screams are brought together as Royal Mail celebrates the 50th anniversary of two timeless UK film genres on six cinematic stamps. The stamps herald the half–century birthday of the Carry On series and the first Dracula movie by Hammer Films. In 1958 the release of Carry On Sergeant and Dracula, both produced on shoestring budgets, kick–started a series of classic movies that were loved by millions. Each stamp features original cinema posters of six of the best–known Carry On and Hammer Horror productions and alternate between the two genres.
Julietta Edgar, head of Special Stamps, Royal Mail, said: “Carry On and Hammer Films had a huge impact on audiences around the world. The stamp issue celebrates and unifies the two very different film genres that spanned decades of UK cinema and remain popular today.” Interview | Video | 15 secs | VisMedia +44 [0]207 613 2555 | Barbara Windsor, star of Carry On, launches new Royal Mail stamp collection.
