New psychological service launched in Nottinghamshire: Computerised beat the blues and fear fighter therapy
A new psychological service has been launched across Nottinghamshire County Teaching Primary Care Trust [PCT] for people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety and depression. Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy [CCBT] offers patients another choice in how they access psychological therapies from the NHS. Beating the Blues and Fear Fighter are the two programmes being implemented by the PCT after being approved by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence [NICE]. The programmes guide the patient through a CBT model asking them to consider how the way in which they think affects the way they behave and, in turn, how they feel. The programmes are designed to challenge the way that people think and use behavioural techniques to help them change the situations they are in, to improve how they are feeling physically and emotionally. CCBT is ideal for patients who can not attend regular appointments with a therapist, or who prefer to work through a computer programme individually. Support is available at every step of the way. And patients don’t even need to have experience of using computers as the programmes are easy to navigate. For further information about Computerised Cognitive Behavioural Therapy visit the Department of Health website: www.dh.gov.uk.
