Professor John Caldwell and Alan Foster:

NHS North West re–appoints non–executive directors

NHS North West has announced the re–appointments of two non–executive directors to its Board. John Caldwell and Alan Foster have both already served two years on the Board and will both serve for another four years.

Professor John Caldwell said: “I very much welcome my re–appointment to the Board. We have made considerable progress over the past two years in addressing important health issues in the North West, and I am very pleased to have the opportunity to continue my involvement with this significant work.”

Professor Caldwell, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Liverpool University, is a former non–executive director at St Mary’s Hospital Trust in London and at Cheshire and Merseyside Strategic Health Authority. A pharmacologist by training, he was based from 1972 to 1997 at St Mary’s Hospital Medical School.

Alan Foster commented: “I am pleased to be re–appointed to the Board of NHS North West and excited to be involved in the challenges and opportunities facing the health service over the next four years.”

Alan retired in 2004 after almost 40 years in industry including 15 years as managing director of MEL Chemicals – a company making Zirconium products with manufacturing bases in Manchester, New Jersey and Japan. He has been mentor for the Prince’s Trust, helping young people to set–up their own businesses and has recently become a governor at Altrincham Girls’ Grammar School.

Infolink: NHS North West is the Strategic Health Authority [SHA] for the North West, covering the largest geographical region in the country, with a population of more than seven million. The SHA is accountable to the Secretary of State for Health for the performance of the NHS in the region.
