Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland:

Local providers sign–up to Charter for Mental Health

A Charter for Mental Health for people living in Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland, setting out what should be expected from the services that provide mental health support and care was launched recently.

Implementation of the Charter by local providers and commissioners aims to ensure better services that more effectively support people's recovery from mental ill health. The development of the Charter has been led by people who have used mental health services, in partnership with organisations that provide and commission services.

The Charter was signed by representatives from Leicester City, Leicestershire County and Rutland County Councils; Leicester City and Leicestershire County and Rutland Primary Care Trusts; Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Voluntary Sector Partnership; Leicestershire Partnership NHS Trust.

The Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland Recovery Group that worked on the development of the Charter have also prepared documents outlining the implications for staff working in mental health services, the organisations that provide those services, and the commissioners who pay for them. The group is undertaking further work on guidance for organisations on how to implement the Charter, and an audit tool to monitor how well organisations are doing.
