Launch event in Volunteers Week: New National Autistic Society branch opens in Derby
The National Autistic Society [NAS] has opened a new branch in Derby and is inviting local people to their launch event on Tuesday 3 June at 7.30pm at The Riverside Centre at Pride Park. The branch is run by volunteers and opens on UK Volunteers’ Week [visit website: www.volunteersweek.org.uk]. Parents and carers of children and adults with autism and local professionals are invited to attend and meet other people with shared experiences. Visitors to the launch event will have the opportunity to gain an insight into the sensory issues that people with autism face, by trying out various interactive exercises that challenge their senses. There will also be a raffle and tombola. Event speakers will include NAS regional co–ordinator Kate Spink, who will be welcoming the new branch to the society and providing an update on the NAS’ Think differently about autism adult campaign that is fighting to get the right support for adults with autism in the UK. The NAS is the UK’s leading charity for people with autism, their families and carers and has over 70 branches around the country. Each branch offers support and information for people affected by autism. The NAS Derby and District Branch will meet once a month and give parents the opportunity to exchange ideas and listen to guest speakers. Meetings will take place at Keddleston Road Training Centre, Derby DE24 8HY. For more information telephone: 07500 089571. Email: derbyanddistrict@nas.org.uk.
