Cornwall fun day event for mental health:

Football teams wanted for six–a–side tournament

Cornwall Partnership Trust is seeking six–a–side football teams to take part in a day of football on 21 May 2008. The event is being organised by Cornwall Partnership Trust together with Cornwall College St. Austell, Pentreath Industries, Cornwall Works and North Cornwall District Council.

During the morning teams will take part in a series of coaching sessions lead by Cornwall College, before going on to play in a mini–tournament during the afternoon.

Paul Tyler, social inclusion worker for Cornwall Partnership Trust said: “We know that sport and healthy living, as well as social interaction makes a real difference to people’s recovery from mental health problems. This day will provide an excellent opportunity to contribute to people’s care and I know it will be a lot of fun. We hope that by bringing teams together from a variety of backgrounds to breakdown some the myths and stigma which are commonly associated with mental health.”

Football teams from across Cornwall are being invited to put their name forward to take part in the event and the organisers at Cornwall Partnership Trust are taking applications to attend. Teams will consist of six players and everyone is being invited to apply regardless of age, gender or ability.

A total of 18 teams will be able to take part in the event which will be held at the Dragon Leisure Centre in Bodmin.

Anyone interested in applying to take part should contact Paul Tyler, social inclusion worker at Cornwall Partnership Trust on: 01726 291250 or email him at: paul.tyler@cpt.cornwall.nhs.uk with their details.

The deadline for applications is Friday 11 April 2008. If more than 18 teams apply for the event, participating teams will be selected by means of a draw. Successful teams will be informed by 18 April 2008.
