Get active, says Sports Council:
Only one–in–three Welsh adults exercises sufficiently
The Sports Council Wales recommends that every adult, of whatever age group should exercise moderately intensively for 30 minutes on five days of the week.
Old age does not necessarily mean that one must stop altogether, although some slowing down may be called for, especially if there are symptoms of asthma, arthritis or heart disease, all three of which need closer medical scrutiny before committing oneself to any exercise routine. The elderly can benefit greatly in maintaining their levels of energy and suppleness, says the Council.
Only 34 per cent of adults in Wales are said to be active at the recommended level of exercise which can be split up into three sessions of 10 minutes each and includes such activities as gardening, walking, dancing or golf.
