Take time–out to supercharge tired minds and bodies

A change is as good as a rest, the saying goes. In other words, while it might be a good thing to just put your feet up and let the world go by, changing your normal routine, such as work or caring for others, for something equally strenuous, such as a skiing holiday or a long distance walk, can be just as refreshing.

The break does not have to be a lengthy one. A few days involving a change of scenery and occupation can work wonders for the tired mind, and if you are a full–time carer, the person cared–for can benefit equally from the change, provided that their temporary carer has all the necessary information to hand.

Lifting the weight of personal responsibility from work, or domestic duties is like a breath of fresh air. It’s all about recharging your batteries and taking a new look at life and its purpose.

For example, organisations like the Youth Hostels Association [YHA] have excellent short, weekend and longer break options throughout England and Wales with special offers and prices to suit all pockets.

YHA boasts over 250 locations and settings to suit individuals and families in a choice of hostels in both city and countryside locations.

Step–out with a walking break. The Ramblers [RA] are Britain's biggest walking charity. For over 70 years RA has promoted walking and campaigned to improve conditions for everyone who walks in England, Scotland and Wales.

Rambler Holidays has over 200 holidays in 60 countries. Go online to view the Ramblers Worldwide Holidays brochure.

Travel in itself makes a good break, such as a trip by train to somewhere different – it need not be a long way off – and seeing sights which are impossible to enjoy whilst driving a car.

For some, a single day trip out by coach away from daily routine and grind can also prove to be a tonic at any time of the year.

If the UK is your chosen destination, or for the more adventurous a break farther afield, make sure you take a knowledgeable travelling companion with you, including healthy travel guides, from Lonely Planet Publications.
