Department for Social Development:

Benefit fraud uncovered of £30,000 in just one week

Nearly £30,000 in fraudulent benefit payments are to be recovered following investigative work, including a case where a 29 year–old woman claimed £11,000 in excess by not declaring that she lived with a partner.

In addition to making repayments, the claimant was sentenced to 100 hours of community service.

Not all cases brought before the court resulted in convictions of which there were 10 in one week alone during August. The number of convictions in the first eight months of this year now stands at 231.
